A café near my office has a tradition that anyone celebrating a birthday receives a free slice of homemade cake. Last Friday I happened to be there when a little girl celebrated her birthday, and everyone in the café sang together. It made the whole place feel warm and welcoming.

My brother recently started volunteering at an animal shelter every Saturday morning. He says cleaning the cages isn't always fun, but seeing the dogs wag their tails when people come to adopt them makes everything worthwhile.

I used to think puzzles were boring, but a friend convinced me to try one during a rainy weekend. We spent hours working together, talking and laughing while searching for the right pieces. Since then, puzzles have become one of my favorite indoor activities.
